Operational management course offered online for agricultural producers
Operational Management, the third and final course in the Western Integrated Resource Education (WIRE) online series developed by the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) to help ranchers and farmers become innovators, will run from Feb. 17 through March 21. Information about registration can be obtained on the WIRE Web site at agecon.uwyo.edu/wire or by contacting John Hewlett, UW CES farm and ranch management specialist, at hewlett@uwyo.edu or (307) 766-2166. The course will focus on the operational level of running an enterprise, during which producers decide the specifics of how, when, and by whom ranch or farm management will be accomplished. Implementing a plan of action, monitoring resource use, and developing timely, proactive responses to the ever-changing world of today’s agriculture will be discussed. Producers will learn the tools to manage the relationships and interactions of major resources like rangeland, crops, livestock, wildlife, finances, human creativity, and labor. Taught by Hewlett, Human Development Specialist Randy Weigel, and other CES educators, WIRE emphasizes the whole management process, linking objectives and available resources with the daily running of a ranching or farming operation. Previous WIRE courses focused on strategic and tactical management techniques. |
